Amur Tigers
Meet the largest of the big cats. We are home to two Amur tigers, male ‘Samkha’ and female ‘Sarma’.
A big size can still mean stealth
Moving quietly through the birch forests of the Amur Valley are skilled hunters whose distinctive coats are used as camouflage and keep them warm in the harsh climates of Russia and China. Amur tigers are known for being solitary creatures who only come together to mate, and use scent-marking to establish their territory. Being a big cat comes with a big appetite – Amur tigers can eat nearly 60 pounds of food in one sitting.
